Despite rising gas prices and an economic slowdown, there’s no shortage of super-pricey, super-fast models. In fact, there seem to be more new ones costing six figures and up every year.

1. Ferrari California

5. The 2006 SSC Ultimate Aero

The 2006 SSC Ultimate Aero is the fastest American car on the road. Shelby Super Cars (SSC) has created the Ultimate Aero as direct competition to the new Bugatti Veyron. The Ultimate Aero is best known for its stability and endurance at speeds greater than 250 mph. In fact, it is estimated (in wind tunnel tests) that the supercar’s top speed is closer to 273 mph.

6.Koenigsegg CCX

The Koenigsegg CCX supercar is one of Europe’s premiere racing cars, but it is only available for consumption by those who have the ability to shell out the money needed for such an expensive, yet luxurious purchase. The Competition Coupe X is one of Koenigsegg’s latest exotic car creations, all of which are known to be some of the best speed cars in the world.

7. Saleen’s S7 is America’s first and up to date the only exotic supercar with mid-engine configuration. When in 2002 S7 went on sale, it was the only street-legal car in the United States that has more than 500 horse power output and 500 lb-ft of torque. Like in any other true supercar, the doors of Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo open upward and away from the body.

9. Koenigsegg CCR – the new champion

Koenigsegg CCR is better known as the ‘record-breaker’. Yes, the CCR beat the The McLaren F1 supercar, the fastest production car ever built, at Italy’s Nardo Prototipo on February 28th 2005, with a breath-taking performance at 387.87 km/h, a 15 km/h increase from the later’s past record.
